How To Stop Your Dog From Jumping

Does your dog jump on you or your guests?  Here are 4 things you can do to train them otherwise:

You can play the magnet game

Take the dogs leash and hook it on the inside of a door’s handle close the door with the leash coming out the bottom of the door. Connect the leash to the dog’s collar. Now your dog can stand with it head up but not jump.

Ask your dog to sit

Now start walking towards your dog, if the dog stands up you back away because the magnetic force the sit was broken. If the dog remains sitting when you get there, say good and treat. It takes 21 to 28 day for the dog to form a new habit. The dog learns that sitting instead of jumping get the attention they what.

Step on the leash

When outside as a person approaches, you will have placed a mark on the leash for you to step on so the dog can’t jump. The dog should be able to stand with its head up but not be able to jump. Again the dog will learn that jumping doesn’t pay.

Ask your dog to go to bed

If your dog jumps on you when you walk into the house, teach it to go to its bed when you come in. Practice opening the door and say bed when the dog goes to the bed treat and praise. Once your dog knows to go to its bed give him a couple of minutes to bring his energy down before calling.
